pelletbeds® are made ‘soft’ ,using a unique process, where long, springy straw fibres, which are up to 7x larger than the particles in ‘fuel’ pellets, are compacted into a softer pellet.

Our straw and miscanthus pellet bedding is made from sustainable crop resides harvested annually from local farms with no trees are harmed in their production. It takes approx. 3 fully grown trees to make 1t of wood pellets which additionally require carbon intensive drying and transport to process. Over 25m trees are harvested for wood pellet use in UK each year
Our own Warwickshire factory is ideally situated in the middle of the country and we offer FREE GB* direct delivery, if required, using small 7.5t trucks. (*small surcharge to some areas) We also use strong, reusable/returnable polypropylene bags rather than thin plastic bags to ensure the products arrive undamaged.

Unlike some manufactures, who also manufacture chopped straw bedding, our pellets do not include the fine dust that results from these processes. We also use unique machinery to make softer pellets as opposed to wood and 8mm straw fuel pellets, which are made much harder.

Our pellet bedding regularly undergoes microbiological analysis to ensure it is in perfect condition prior to dispatch.

pelletbeds are made specifically for horses from long springy straw fibres which are on average ~ 10x larger than wood or straw fuel pellet particles.
They are idea for all horses especially those with Laminitis, COPD and other respiratory problems.

Wood and straw fuel pellets made for combustion have to be made from very small dust particles. The BSL ENplus A1 Wood Fuel Pellet standard requires that ‘95% of particles in wood pellets must be less than 2 mm….and 60% less than 1 mm….!!!!’) These fuel pellets are also made very hard (for combustion and transport reasons) so require excessive watering to open.
Some pellets may also contain pelleting additives such as caustic (sodium hydroxide) which are harmful to horses.
We manufacture all our pellets at our own UK production facility, shipping directly to consumers. This insures we can constantly monitor our pellet quality and extract any dust throughout processing and handling.

As straw is a sustainable residue from annual crop production it does not require the destruction of forests. Straw and miscanthus are also carbon negative; annually capturing up to 2.35t of CO2 per hectare as they grow each year
Trees in comparison require over 20 years plus to grow and reabsorb the carbon emitted when one is cut down….with the UK currently using approx. 25 million trees for wood pellets it is clearly unsustainable
Trees are a valuable environmental resource which have to be managed carefully. The UK has only 13% tree cover compared to a European average of 46% and currently over 88% of the wood used in the UK has to imported ( 2nd largest importer in world).
